Items Of Interest
This story originally went out as an Email message to the "Dart List" as a follow up to the conclusion of the 4th Annual A.B.D.A. National Championship Tournament. Since everybody who might be interested in this story may or may not be on the list I was encouraged to put it on the web site for everyone to enjoy so here it is!
Fellow Shooters,
The A.B.D.A. National Championships for American Darts
were completed March 21st with a "THRILLING FINAL" in the "A" Division.
It went "way too late" (reminiscent of the old days at the Freeland
VFW) due to the many close 3 game matches throughout the day and a 6 game finals
for the "A" Division. I had mixed emotions myself since VIP Darts
#1 was in the "King Seat", but John Petrick (PA State Tournament
Director for a number of years & a sentimental favorite) was on the Freeland
team of Just Us that met VIP in the finals.
I'm not going to write you a play by play here but you need to understand that
what happened at the very end "WAS MONUMENTAL" in our sport. A number
of us have discussed this and we think that this has "NEVER EVER HAPPENED
BEFORE" in a major tournament (like the PA State Tournament) final game
9th inning. The Hammer Man for VIP Darts (Joe Haganey) needed a perfect score "Ginsberg" in
the 9th inning of the 6th and deciding game to tie the score. He took a fair
amount of time to line up the shot and get comfortable at the toe board. First
dart trip! Joe went to the board and checked it to be sure. He took his time
again and then shot the second trip! A long day behind everybody, Joe Haganey
measured up the last critical shot and "Whacked the Gins!" A perfect
score to tie it all up! The match was then won by Just Us in the 10th inning
but there was plenty to cheer about and be proud of on both sides. You can
