Vic Karpowich Passes Away...
Vic had many hats and titles associated with the PA State Dart Tournament, including (but not limited to) Tournament Director, Commissioner, Announcer, Statistician, Historian, Scorekeeper and of course he is probably best known for building all of the State Tournament trophies for the past 41 years!

Victor J. Karpowich, Sr.
Victor J. Karpowich, Sr., 70, of Birkbeck St., Freeland, passed away Thursday afternoon at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Bear Creek, following a sudden illness.
Born in Freeland, October 5, 1938, he was the son of the late William A. and Cecelia (Kochie) Karpowich, and spent his entire life in Freeland.
He was the proprietor of Vic’s Trophies in Freeland for 40 years. He was a past social member of the Freeland VFW. Vic was a great fan of NASCAR racing. He was a regular at Sundance Vacations Speedway, Drums. Vic also sponsored several of the track’s race teams for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and darts.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife the former Mary C. Heckler, who passed away July 27, 1996; and a daughter Christine Karpowich Zaludek, October 11, 2000.
Surviving are four children, Susan Gorski, Richmond, VA; Victor J., Jr., Scranton; Kathryn and James, both of Freeland; 3 grandchildren Toni Gorski Davy; Jon Gorski; and Lena Rinkus; seven brothers, William; David and his wife Shirley; Ronald; Joseph and his wife Ellen; John and his wife Carmella, all of Freeland; Richard and his wife Claire, Drums; and Robert and his wife Linda, Drifton; a sister Mary Verbonitz, Freeland; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 8
pm from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive,
Drums. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6
pm until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society,
St Gabriel House, 132 S. Wyoming St., Hazleton, PA 18201, or the charity of
the donor’s choice.

The A.B.D.A. is for league shooters from leagues that keep individual averages. Once a shooter participates in an A.B.D.A. tournament they automatically become a member. There are
NO
MEMBERSHIP FEES!
The Qualifier Tournaments are in place so that a league can host a local tournament
for the players that really aren't interested in traveling too much and also
to benefit financially the league and/or establishment that hosts the event.
It also benefits the local teams that QUALIFY (the top 25% get a SEEDED PLACEMENT
in the draw for the finals in Emmaus). ALL OTHER TEAMS (including teams that
may NOT HAVE QUALIFIED LOCALLY) are still welcomed and encouraged to enter
the finals event (providing there is room in the draw) and accept the usual
luck-of-the-draw placement. We have opened up the draw this year so we can
accommodate more teams and consequently pay out more prize money!

Incredible Finish...
In the final match of the night Dorko's Cafe & B.V.F.H.A. shot a match that went into the 12th inning in the 3rd game, an incredible finish missed by all except for a handful. Dorko's hammer man (Nate Dobeck) came up big in the 9th by hitting a 6 with his last 2 darts to tie. Then in the 10th another 6 to tie, again with his last 2 darts. Then in the 11th he shot a red, missed, then hit a trip to tie again to take it to the 12th and the win. WOW!! That's what it's all about!!!!!!!!! Team members for B.V.F.H.A. are Ricky Sechler, Gary Kanter, & Barry Folweiller. Dorko's Cafe team members are Kirk Wimble, Dennis Conti, Nate Dobeck.
Now that was a match!!!

This is a national dart association that is broken into classified divisions for competitive tournaments. Each region may host a regional qualifier tournament, with the top teams going on to a national title championship tournament.
